Our First Chakras Are Seriously F*cked Right Now

You have been on my mind and heart.

With all the recent national atrocities, I’ve personally been in a deep state of anxiety and freeze.

For several weeks I hadn't been able to complete the simplest of tasks, answer emails and texts (sorry if this was you,) put away my laundry, weed my garden… The most I could do was to take care of my children, albeit there was a bit more TV time than usual.

However, after pummeling my system with as many supportive herbs as I could put into my body (thank god for ashwagandha, am I right?!?) I collected enough of my wits that I was able to empower myself to return to the practices that serve me; yoga, meditation, and getting my hands in the soil.

Once did, a fire hose of information started rushing through. So much so, that I've had trouble knowing where to start… this is that start.

Spirit has been VERY clear about one thing…Our 1st Chakras are in a crisis state

The first and second chakras work as our energetic digestion and elimination systems. Together they metabolize our experiences, emotions, and traumas drawing out the light and energy that can be utilized, discarding the dense roughage through our first chakra (and grounding chord), recycling it back into the earth.

When our first chakras are blocked, overly triggered ,or damaged we are unable to eliminate these denser energies, and cannot clear the traumas and emotions from our bodies. These dense sticky energies turn into sludge, hanging out in our energetic and physical bodies, making us feel horrid.

The first chakra represents our relationship to the physical world (AKA “What I Think About The World,”) and out basic needs within it. Survival, sex, birth, providing for oneself, security, and your connection with the Earth (AKA: The Feminine.)

Between the pandemic, loss of reproductive rights, a recession, mass shootings, the climate crisis, and so very much more , our physical/mental/emotional/spiritual systems aren’t equipped to handle so much trauma at once. Without the ability to eliminate our trauma, we have become energetically constipated.

These are just the larger global issues (minus the mass shootings), this isn’t taking into account the personal trials we all face each day. Add in a fight with a spouse, a child getting sick, your dog barfing on the carpet, and we watch as we loose our effing minds, and wonder why we can’t cope with the most minuscule of challenges. We have lost the ability to digest and eliminate the daily traumas.

So what can we do?

The 5-Sense Exercise

Sit in a chair. While breathing slowly, look around the room and SEE everything you can with your eyes. Try to receive as much information as you possibly can using your vision. Next, draw your attention to sound. Listen as carefully as you can to HEAR as far as you can hear. Like before, try to take in as much information as you can about what you can hear. Next move to SMELL, then TASTE, and lastly TOUCH where you feel everything you can feel touching your skin. Go through each of the senses a few times, going a bit faster each time. Finally, take a moment to notice which of your 5-senses is the weakest. Spend 1-2 minutes just focusing on that weak sense. Remember this sense for the future and focus on this weak sense the next time you are spinning out.

Walk Barefoot on The Earth

I’m assuming this is pretty darn self explanatory. Take off your shoes and focus on what you can feel with your feet. Ask the Earth for a healing. Ask Her to draw out anything that isn’t serving you, and imagine the energy leaving your space and getting pulled into the Earth. Say thank you. Even better, leave an offering of gratitude (a little tobacco, something you’ve made, a song.)

Dance

I would just say ‘physical movement’ but so many of us tend to use exercise to check out of our minds, and subsequently, our bodies. With dance we have to pay attention to the present. We cant think ahead, or behind, we can let our bodies move freely, and feel what our body is aching to do.

Sing

It’s as easy as opening your mouth and making noise. It doesn’t have to be pretty, just feel the sounds that want to come out.

Great Sex

Enough said.

Grow a Garden

There is something magical that happens when we tend a piece of Earth, or even a window sill herb garden. She communicates through the soil, the smell of tomato plants on your hands, and the way bees bounce along clover tops. She will teach you to slow down, notice, watch and listen, to surrender certainty, and to grieve unexpected loss. Our gardens are wonderful portals into the teaching plane of the Mother. It’s also a great place to compost our waste, physical and otherwise.

As you can see, the best practices to support our first chakra are those that stimulate our physical bodies as well as connects us with the Earth. As you continue to support your first chakra, you will begin to notice a sense of “getting your feet underneath you,” you’ll be able to move through challenges with more grace and resilience. And lord knows we could use our resilience these days. I hope these practices serve you well.
